Murals are popping up all over the county, from the controversial Running of the Horses on Depot St. to the American Flag and landscape at Cartner’s Food Mart. Local artists are making our county more interesting and beautiful by expressing their talents through murals.

The Station in Downtown Mocksville has a beautiful 96 square foot mural on the back of the building designed with the inspiration of an old 1960s-1970s era postcard, but updated to reflect the attractions from present day, along with some of the older scenery. Local Attorney Ryan Addison commissioned a mural of a flying pig, which appears to be a theme of his. Undoubtedly, he has met and exceeded someone’s former expectations. Both of these were painted by Bruce White of Wild Mountain Designs and Art. Bruce has had a long-time love of art and has taught many young artists. He also painted the mural at the new Davie County Community Park depicting the residents enjoying activities.

Out in the Center/Callahan area, Todd Donahue a.k.a. Mr. Mural of Imagination Works, is painting the exterior of Cartner’s Food Mart. This mural has a huge waving American flag with a flying eagle covering a garage door and a beautiful landscape of the area. The latest addition to this mural is a red M&M figure standing with a hand on his hip. Patrick Brooks, the owner of Cartner’s Food Mart, said that he wants the mural to incorporate the attractions of the local area and the highlights of his business. Mr. Mural has just finished the Vietnam Tribute Memorial at the Disabled American Veteran’s – Davie Chapter building. In the posts on his Facebook page, he tells about his attention to detail and honoring of America through his work.

It is nice to see the local business owners taking pride in their community. This trend is sure to continue.
